A winter lodge in the Pyrenees

The snow returns every year to fill the season with magic, and destinations such as the Pyrenees come into their own. One example of this is the Parador de Arties, located just seven kilometres from the ski resort of Baqueira Beret. This iconic establishment, which reflects the traditional Aranese architecture of the 14th and 15th centuries, is transformed into a perfect winter lodge with its wooden beams, sloping ceilings, cosy rooms and stunning views of the picturesque mountain village.

The Parador de Arties has a rich history to tell, as it was the birthplace of Gaspar de Portolá, famous for being the discoverer of California. It also offers excellent dining in its restaurant "La Cuina de Portolá", located on the ground floor of the old inn, with large windows offering a unique view of the mountains.

To complement your stay, the Parador has a heated swimming pool, ideal for a swim against the backdrop of the snowy landscape, as well as a sauna, gym, billiards room and a cocktail bar.

Aran Valley and the Parador de Vielha

Following the Pyrenean landscape of the Val d'Aran, a natural beauty spot surrounded by mountains over 2,000 metres high, we find another destination close to the slopes of Baqueira Beret: the Parador de Vielha. Located on the top of a hill at the entrance to the town, it offers impressive views of the Catalan Alpine landscape from some of its rooms and from its circular dining room, which opens onto the snowy landscape, surrounded by a charming garden.

At this Parador you can enjoy the best regional cuisine in the area, with both Catalan and French influences. After a gastronomic feast, you can relax in the wonderful facilities of the establishment, which include a heated swimming pool (indoor and outdoor), sauna and jacuzzi. In addition, the historic centre of Vielha will surprise you with its gourmet and craft shops, while the architectural charm of the place will captivate you. Don't miss a visit to the Tor deth Generau Martrinhon, a 17th century palace converted into an ethnological museum, and the church of Sant Miguel, which features a 12th century Romanesque Christ.

Where history and nature come together

The Parador de Gredos, opened in 1928 by King Alfonso XIII, is much more than a mountain refuge. It is a place full of history, as it was the place where the first draft of the Spanish Constitution was written. This historic moment is commemorated in the Parador with a photo and a plaque in honour of the seven fathers of the Constitution.

The Parador de Gredos, just a 15-minute drive from the Plataforma de Gredos, offers access to numerous mountain routes, while the nearby Puerto del Pico is home to a perfectly preserved Roman road. After a day of outdoor adventures, you can enjoy traditional Gredos dishes such as stews and casseroles in the Parador's restaurant. Ideal for a family getaway, where your pet is also allowed.
