[email protected]The story of Paradores started here, amongst green pine forests, rugged mountains and crystal-clear waters. The Parador de Gredos was inaugurated on 9 October 1928 by Alfonso XIII as the first establishment in the Paradores Network.
Built from materials taken from the manor house of Villacastín, the robust stone and slate exterior conceals a comfortable interior inspired by traditional Castilian design, where rustic wooden décor creates spaces that are both dignified and welcoming and makes the terraces spectacular viewing points of the Sierra de Gredos.
Built in 1928 as a lodge for royal hunting parties, the Parador de Gredos reflects the commitment of the Network since its inception to build hotels in unique natural settings, beyond the reach of private initiatives.
The Parador also appears in the history books as the place where the fathers of the Spanish Constitution met in early 1978 to draw up their Carta Magna. The event is commemorated in the Salón del Silencio, rebaptised as the Salón de los Ponentes, where the first text of the Spanish Constitution was drafted.

Take advantage of the Paradores offers
The Parador de Gredos, nestling in the heart of a mountain range, is close to Navarredonda de Gredos (Ávila), and just two hours' drive away from Madrid. Its privileged location makes it an unbeatable destination for nature lovers, but there are also many opportunities for guests who want to discover the culture of the region, such as the nearby towns of El Barco de Ávila and Arenas de San Pedro, or the Puerto del Pico, where you can walk along one of the best conserved Roman roads in Spain.
The Sierra de Gredos is an ideal place to disconnect and relax, with Madrid just two hours away. Here you’ll discover incredible spots such as the Cuevas del Águila, one of the marvels of the Valle del Tiétar, or take a dip in the many local natural pools. Lovers of hiking can enjoy the wide variety of routes near the Parador, such as the Circo de Gredos, where you can see the Laguna Grande and El Almanzor, the highest peak in the range. Mushroom hunts and horse riding are other options for our guests, as are birding and star watching activities with international Starlight certification.
In summer you can have a dip in the natural pools. There are other activities such as mushroom picking tours, horse-riding, bird watching or having fun with the little ones in the adventure parks. A little more than half an hour's drive away, are two historical towns on the banks of the river Tormes: Arenas de San Pedro and El Barco de Ávila.
Don’t miss out on stargazing at night. The Parador de Gredos has been awarded the international Starlight certification for the quality of its night sky as it is an area protected from light pollution. At the Parador we organise astronomy activities and courses with certified instructors.
