Getaways with an Andalusian flavor: art, patios, and summer nights
06 de August 2025

Andalusia is a place where the light has a special glow, where time seems to pass more slowly, and where every city holds centuries of history and tradition. We often associate this region with its beaches, but inland Andalusia and its surroundings offer a summer full of cultural experiences, captivating landscapes, and nights that invite tranquility.

In this itinerary, we invite you to explore Córdoba, Jaén, Antequera, and Málaga — a route designed for those who want to experience Andalusia in a different way. From cool courtyards and whitewashed alleys to hilltop castles, World Heritage monuments, and unique natural settings. Each stage is a world of its own, and each Parador is a perfect retreat to escape the heat and rest after a day full of adventures.

Córdoba: Cool Patios and Nights Full of History

Córdoba is a city that breathes art in every corner. Its Mosque–Cathedral, one of the most impressive monuments in the world, is a must-visit at any time of the year, but in summer it gains a special charm: light softly filters through its arches and columns, and the coolness inside offers a welcome break from the heat outside.

Walking through the Jewish Quarter (Judería), with its narrow whitewashed streets, feels like stepping into a charming labyrinth where there’s always a shady corner to be found. Squares such as Plaza del Potro or Plaza de la Corredera invite you to sit on a terrace in the late afternoon while the city begins to transform with the setting sun. In summer, Córdoba also offers unique nighttime experiences, such as the “Soul of Córdoba” show at the Mosque or guided night tours of the illuminated Alcázar of the Christian Monarchs.

The courtyards (patios) of Córdoba, though their main festival takes place in May, can be visited throughout the summer. They are true oases of coolness, full of plants and fountains. And for the more curious, the palatial city of Medina Azahara, just outside the city and a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is not to be missed.

Parador de Córdoba

Located in the upper part of the city, surrounded by gardens and featuring one of the largest and most pleasant pools in the network, this Parador is a true oasis. Its location offers milder temperatures than the city center, and its spacious terraces invite you to watch the sunset over the city as the heat fades away.

Jaén: Endless Panoramas and Mountain Air

Jaén is the gateway to a sea of olive trees stretching to the horizon. Its Renaissance cathedral, one of the most impressive in Spain, dominates the historic center and is well worth a guided tour to uncover its secrets. Climbing its steep streets up to the Castle of Santa Catalina is an experience in itself: the views from there over the city and the olive groves are among the most spectacular in Andalusia.

In summer, Jaén surprises with its relaxed atmosphere — perfect for strolling at sunset through Plaza de Santa María or discovering its Arab baths, one of the largest preserved complexes of their kind in Europe. Its natural surroundings are a paradise for hiking lovers: the Sierra de Cazorla, Segura and Las Villas, or the Sierra Mágina Natural Park offer refreshing trails in mountain areas, with streams and forests where the heat eases.

Local gastronomy is another highlight: extra virgin olive oil is the star ingredient in dishes such as ajoblanco, pipirrana, or pickled partridge. In summer, nothing beats enjoying an outdoor dinner on a terrace with views of the sea of olive trees.

Parador de Jaén

Perched atop the hill of Santa Catalina, this castle-like Parador offers cooler temperatures than the city center. Its thick stone walls keep out the heat, and its panoramic terrace is perfect for enjoying summer nights with a pleasant breeze and views that seem endless.

Antequera: cultural crossroads and peaceful charm

Antequera is a true crossroads in Andalusia, with historical and natural heritage that surprises first-time visitors. In its old quarter, Baroque churches, stately mansions, and Roman remains coexist. A visit to the Alcazaba is a must, offering fantastic views of the city and the Vega de Antequera.

Its greatest archaeological treasure is the Dolmens of Menga, Viera, and El Romeral, declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site, offering a unique journey back to prehistory. For nature lovers, the nearby El Torcal Natural Area is a geological wonder with unique rock formations, ideal for exploring in the late afternoon when the sun is lower and the air cooler.

In summer, Antequera keeps a relaxed pace—perfect for evening strolls around Plaza de San Sebastián or for tasting its local cuisine at a terrace. Dishes such as porra antequerana, bienmesabe, and molletes are must-tries for any visitor.

Parador de Antequera

With a modern and functional design, this Parador offers gardens and a swimming pool where you can cool off after a day of exploration. Its orientation and open spaces allow the countryside breeze to temper the heat, making it the perfect place to relax before heading out for an evening walk through the city.

Málaga Golf: the Mediterranean in peace

Málaga is a vibrant city, yet it also offers corners where you can disconnect. Just minutes from the center, the Parador de Málaga Golf sits next to the beach and is surrounded by nature. From here, it’s easy to alternate cultural days in the city—visiting the Picasso Museum, the Pompidou Center, or the Alcazaba—with relaxing days by the sea.

The Parador’s surroundings invite early morning beach walks or a round of golf on a historic course. The proximity to towns like Torremolinos or Benalmádena offers lively seafront promenades, summer markets, and terraces with Mediterranean views. For nature lovers, the Guadalhorce River Mouth is a protected area where you can enjoy birdwatching in a cool setting at sunset.

In summer, Málaga offers lively nights but also quiet spots where you can enjoy an outdoor dinner, accompanied by the sound of the sea and the gentle sea breeze.

Its spacious rooms with open terraces facing the sea, the constant sea breeze, and its outdoor pool make it easy to enjoy summer even on the hottest days. Here, the freshness of the Mediterranean and the green of the golf course create a relaxing, revitalizing atmosphere.
