Three new ways to experience nature in La Seu d'Urgell
08 de December 2025

Nestled among the majestic mountains of the Catalan Pyrenees and just a stone's throw from the Andorran border, La Seu d'Urgell is a superb location for those seeking nature, history and culture in a single destination. In the heart of the county of Alt Urgell, this open, vibrant and monumental city combines the medieval essence of its old town with spectacular natural surroundings, located between the Cadí-Moixeró and the Alt Pirineu Natural Parks, and very close to the Aigüestortes and Lago de Sant Maurici National Park.

The Parador

In this unique setting is the Parador de La Seu d’Urgell, an elegant building that harmoniously combines its 18th-century neo-classical cloister with contemporary décor. Its spaces, heated swimming pool, restaurant, gym, sauna and solarium make it an ideal retreat after a day of outdoor activities.

Located next to the Cathedral of Santa María, the only Romanesque cathedral still standing in Catalonia, and very close to the church of San Miguel and its cloister, the Parador is the perfect starting point for discovering the medieval city, its arcaded streets and such emblematic sites as the Parc Olímpic del Segre, a venue for adventure sports such as rafting and hydrospeed.

Another step forward in Paradores' commitment to sustainability

At Paradores, we are reaffirming our role as advocates of rural development and protectors of natural heritage with a forward-looking initiative: “Nature for the senses”, a programme that, as many of you know, is committed to sustainable, responsible and transformative tourism.

This project seeks to generate social, environmental and economic benefits in the lands that host the Paradores network, supporting local producers, protecting biodiversity and enhancing the value of the landscapes that define rural Spain.

With the addition of the Parador de La Seu d’Urgell to the programme, travellers will be able to enjoy a selection of activities that combine nature, culture, tradition and excitement. These activities are designed to connect with the region in an authentic and respectful way.

The first three activities available eat the Parador offer different ways to connect with the environment. The last Cathar is an experience that intertwines history, nature and symbolism through a trip to the legendary Castellbó valley, where it is possible to discover the legacy of the Cathars while touring the Alt Pirineu Natural Park on a gentle excursion through forests and mountain meadows. The Excursion to the Shrine of Mare de Déu invites you to enjoy a peaceful walk from Ansovell, amid oak trees, meadows and spectacular views of the valley, until you reach the shrine, located in a large natural viewpoint equipped with rest areas. Finally, Gastronomy and tradition: the Pyrenees through its stories is a guided tasting that combines flavours, memories and ancestral tales through local products that convey crafts, legends and identity, allowing visitors to connect with the deepest soul of these mountains.
