Discover Paradores
20 de October 2025

Since its creation, Paradores has been much more than a network of quality accommodation. Its mission has always been, and continues to be, to preserve and promote Spain's historical and cultural heritage. With exceptional care taken in the restoration and renovation of monuments, historic buildings, castles, monasteries and palaces, Paradores has established itself as a true guardian of collective memory.

Each of the establishments bears witness to history, offering travellers the opportunity to not only wallow in comfort and relaxation, but also to absorb centuries of culture and tradition. In addition, Paradores fulfils a key social function, as it not only preserves our country's artistic and architectural heritage, but also makes it accessible to the public, educating and raising awareness among new generations about the wealth of their heritage.

Launch

In this context of preservation and dissemination, we have launched Discover Paradores, an innovative digital project that seeks to democratise access to the history, art and architecture of the most emblematic establishments. Thanks to this programme, the heritage of Paradores has been opened up to the public in a completely new way, using the latest digital and immersive reality technologies.

Using QR codes available at participating Paradores (Gredos, Oropesa, Úbeda, Mérida, Hondarribia, Chinchón, Lerma and Santo Estevo), visitors can access a virtual guided tour that allows them to explore the rich history of these spaces. With 360º images, interactive content and detailed narration, the experience goes far beyond a mere tourist visit, becoming a dynamic lesson accessible from any mobile device.

This project is a step towards the future of digital conservation and inclusive access to culture.

Discover Paradores has been made possible thanks to the Ministry of Industry and Tourism's "Experiencias Turismo España" programme, part of the Spanish Government's Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan, financed by the European Union through Next GenerationEU funds. This initiative is part of component 14, the Plan for the modernisation and competitiveness of the tourism sector.

The project, led by Paradores, is the result of collaborative work with four other partners: Fundación Contemporánea, Fundación General de la Universidad Politécnica de Madrid, GMV Soluciones Globales Internet and La Fábrica Gestión Más Cultura.

Art at Paradores

Art is another of the great pillars on which the identity of Paradores is based. With a collection of nearly 10,000 works, ranging from archaeological art to renowned contemporary pieces, Paradores stands as a true living museum.

Its facilities house works by artists from different periods and styles, from the Renaissance to the 21st century, including paintings, sculptures, furniture and decorative arts.

The Paradores network not only safeguards a valuable artistic heritage, but also makes it an integral part of the visitor experience. Each piece, meticulously restored and preserved by experts, tells a story that adds to the narrative of the building itself.

From paintings by classical artists such as Juan de Juni and Luca Giordano to avant-garde works by Ramón Gómez de la Serna and Antoni Tàpies, art blends with the space, transforming Paradores into a place where history, heritage and contemporary creation coexist in harmony.

In addition to the digital experience, you can find more information in the editorial project, which includes a collection of eight publications (booklets), one for each Parador, which summarise the contributions of various authors specialising in the corresponding aspects of heritage.
