Watch the sunrise from the edge of a cliff? Take a mid-morning dip in a lovely cove? Aiguablava awaits! A travel destination where you can enjoy the sun, beach and wonderful local cuisine like nowhere else.
What do you say?
Day one:
As soon as you arrive at the Parador you will begin to feel the gentle breeze of the Costa Brava. Why hesitate? Go for a dip in the amazing cover, with crystalline waters and golden sand, or do a little diving. The cove at Aiguablava is perfect for snorkeling.
After all that exercise, what better way to end the day than with dinner at the wonderful Parador restaurant, which offers an incredible view of the surrounding cliffs. This is a fantastic opportunity to sample the traditional cuisine of the Ampurdán district, including such specialties as: suquet de peix (fish soup), delicious seafood and chicken rice dishes, and fresh fish from along the coast.
Day two:
Begin the day by getting your strength up with the delicious Parador buffet breakfast on the terrace with a sea view. Then grab your backpack and head out for a hike to Begur, just 5 kilometers from the hotel. This Costa Brava town is set on a group of hills washed by the waters of the Mediterranean. Highlights include the ostentatious houses of the indianos, Spaniards who made their fortune in Latin America, the legacy of heavy emigration to Cuba in the 19th century. There are a number of options in terms of water sports. You can even hire a boat and explore the lovely coastline of the Ampurdán district. And of course, enjoy fresh fish for lunch. What better way to spend the day?
In the afternoon, we recommend a visit to Pals, 10 kilometers away. Highlights include the Museo de Arqueología Submarina (Museum of Underwater Archaeology), El Pedró Romanesque-Gothic historic site and even the Medes Islands. And after so much beauty, dine on delicious arroz a la cazuela del Empordá, a mouth-watering traditional local rice dish!
On your final day, before returning home, be sure to stop at the town of Peratallada, 12 kilometers from the Parador. It has a medieval castle/fortress that is truly worth making the time to see..
