The best terraces at Paradores to celebrate St Patrick's Day (Spanish style)
10 de March 2026

St Patrick may not have been born in Spain, but if there's one thing we know how to do here, it's to take good traditions and improve them with sunshine, gastronomy and unforgettable terraces. On 17 March, the world turns green. In Dublin they celebrate with parades and music; we celebrate as we know best, outdoors, with a good beer or a great wine, something delicious on the table and a spectacular setting. Because if there's one thing that goes perfectly with St Patrick's Day, it's terrace culture. And in that regard, Paradores are in a league of their own. We're not talking about just any table in the sun. We're talking about historic gardens, monumental viewpoints, medieval fortresses and panoramic views that turn a simple afternoon into a memorable experience.

Are you in?

Green Rioja and endless after-dinner conversation

Calahorra is a constant surprise, with its Roman ruins, imposing cathedral and Vegetable Museum making every corner worth a photo. If you like wine, you can take a short detour to Aldeanueva del Ebro to feel like you're in the heart of Rioja Baja.

Once you've enjoyed a few cultural trails in the morning, it's time to sit out on a terrace, where the greenery is not just symbolic. The Parador de Calahorra is surrounded by gardens and palm trees, in a setting where spring is truly beginning to make itself felt. Find a table in the sun, order a cold beer or, if you prefer, a good local white wine to start celebrating in style. Here, St Patrick's Day becomes a celebration where you set the pace.

Toast with views from the Fortaleza del Sol

In Ireland they celebrate in centuries-old pubs, but at the Parador de Lorca we celebrate inside a castle. The Parador is located within the grounds of Lorca Castle, overlooking the city from above. Its terrace is spacious, bright and open to the Murcian horizon. Here, the plan is a golden afternoon, clear skies, beer and cuisine with identity.

If you feel like it, after the toast, you can walk along the walls, visit the medieval synagogue discovered on the grounds or even extend your getaway to the coast. But you can also start and end on that elevated terrace where everything seems under control.

The terrace with the best skyline

Some celebrations are remembered for the atmosphere. Others, for the setting. The terrace of the Parador de Toledo offers what is probably one of the best views in Spain. Toledo unfolds before you in its entirety, as you can see the Alcázar de Toledo, Toledo Cathedral and the monumental skyline lit up at nightfall, all from the terrace of the Parador.

The ideal plan would be a cultural morning in the city, returning to the Parador and a table reserved on the terrace just as the sunset begins. Foamy beer, wines from La Mancha, traditional dishes reinterpreted with elegance and laughter until you can't laugh anymore. Here, Saint Patrick doesn't need shamrocks, because the greenery is provided by the landscape of the River Tagus surrounding the city.

Space, horizon and a table to share

Segovia is not playing in the minor leagues. Its aqueduct is one of those monuments that forces you to slow down and simply admire it. The Alcázar, the cathedral, the old walls... everything invites you to walk and discover.

Once the city has given you a good repertoire of photos, stories, nooks and crannies, it's time to crown the day on the terrace of the Parador de Segovia. This place has a trick up its sleeve: its panoramic terrace brings you face to face with the city’s historic skyline. The golden hues of the stone at sunset, a cold beer in your hand, and traditional dishes with a modern twist make the moment magical. Here you can celebrate St. Patrick's Day in a group, with tapas to share and that feeling of "I want this to last a little longer".

Bonus track in Madrid

If you want to take the plan one step further, Madrid is a surprising destination this year to experience St. Patrick's Day in all its intensity. The capital is preparing for Irish Week from 10 to 17 March, which will culminate in a parade of more than 600 pipers along the Gran Vía, transforming the city into a veritable Green Vía. Music, colour, tradition and a festive atmosphere for those who want a St Patrick's Day with rhythm, partying and urban encounters.

After the parade, continue the fun on the city centre pavement terraces or stroll through charming neighbourhoods. In the afternoon, soak up the spirit of the festival and then escape to rest at the Parador de Alcalá de Henares.

This Parador is living history, a building with character where you can end the day in peace, or continue celebrating St Patrick's Day with tapas in the city of Alcalá.
