Sleeping under the stars: family astro-tourism ideas to reconnect and learn together
21 de April 2026

A quiet night, an open sky, and millions of stars weaving tales that stretch across generations. In a world dominated by screens and constant distractions, taking a moment to look up at the night sky can become one of the most meaningful activities to share as a family. And if that moment unfolds in breathtaking natural surroundings, the experience becomes truly magical.

The Paradores network offers precisely that: getaways where relaxation, learning and excitement go hand in hand. Our astro-tourism programme invites both young and old to discover the universe under some of the clearest skies in the country, in destinations certified by the Starlight Foundation. The result? Places almost entirely free of light pollution, where simply looking up becomes a deeply immersive sensory experience.

Learning by looking up at the sky

These activities are designed for the whole family to take part. It’s not just about observing stars, but about truly understanding them. From identifying constellations, discovering how galaxies are formed to understanding why we can see nebulae in the night sky, every step is guided by specialist instructors who transform astronomy into an engaging and accessible adventure for children and adults alike.

The sessions, lasting approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes, combine educational content with hands-on observation. Children are often amazed as they recognise planets or listen to the mythological stories linked to the stars, while adults rediscover the sky with a renewed sense of curiosity and calm.

Three destinations for a journey into the universe

Each destination has its own character, but they all share something essential: spectacular skies and natural surroundings that invite you to slow down and reflect.

Set in the heart of nature, the Parador de Gredos is the perfect retreat for families looking to switch off and reconnect with each other. Surrounded by the imposing mountain landscape, this idyllic spot offers astro-tourism sessions every Thursday between March and October, at 10:30 pm. For around an hour and a half, both young and old immerse themselves in the universe, guided by experts, in an accessible and engaging experience.

The price is €25 for adults and €10 for children aged 7 to 12 (free for children under 6), and the activity can be enjoyed either as part of a complete package including accommodation and breakfast or booked separately, subject to availability. The experience takes place in small groups, with a minimum of six participants, creating a welcoming and interactive atmosphere.

Quite different, yet equally spectacular, is the offering at the Parador de Cruz de Tejeda, situated at one of the highest points on Gran Canaria. Here, the volcanic landscape and the altitude create an almost surreal setting where the sky seems almost within reach. The stargazing sessions take place every Thursday at 11:00 pm, lasting an hour and a half, and follow the same educational and family-friendly approach.

Prices are also €25 for adults and €10 for children (free for younger children), and there is the option to book the activity on its own or include it as part of a stay at the Parador. As with the other destinations, a minimum group of six people is required.

Meanwhile, the Parador de Segovia offers an experience where history and the sky intertwine. In its gardens, with spectacular views all around, families can discover the wonders of the night sky in sessions held every Monday between April and October. The activity begins around 10:00 pm, although the time may vary slightly depending on the time of year, and lasts for an hour and a half.

The price remains exactly the same as at the previous Paradores, and you can also book the activity separately, subject to availability, by contacting the Parador directly.

Much more than just stargazing

Beyond stargazing, these experiences foster something essential: quality family time. No distractions, no rushing. Just questions, discoveries and shared moments under the night sky.

Because sometimes, to create unforgettable memories, all it takes is to switch off the lights and look up.
