At Paradores we have castles, convents, fortresses... and yes, palaces as well. But today we want to tell you a curiosity that, unless you are a real expert in Paradores, you probably don't know. In the beautiful city of Úbeda, declared a World Heritage Site together with its neighbour Baeza, you will find one of the most special buildings in our network: the Parador de Úbeda. And what makes it so special? Find out below.
The Parador de Úbeda

This majestic 16th-century building, with its imposing Renaissance façade, was once the residence of Dean Ortega. But in 1929, three centuries after its construction, it passed into the hands of the Spanish State to become one of the first accommodations with living history within its walls. Thus began the concept of sleeping in places with soul, history and architectural beauty.

But the charm does not stop on the outside. Its central courtyard is a jewel in itself. Considered one of the most beautiful in Úbeda, this space breathes peace, history and art. The arcades and columns, which evoke the Nasrid mosaic pattern (inspired by the art of the Alhambra in Granada), transport you directly to the palatial life of another era. It is the ideal place to sit and have a drink, read or simply let yourself be carried away by the magical atmosphere of the place.
Curious facts
The Parador network now has 98 establishments in Spain and one more in Portugal, and the best thing is that no two are the same. Castles, convents, palaces, modern buildings or in the heart of nature... each one has its own charm. But what really makes them unique is the history they hold inside, that "something" that sets them apart and makes them much more than just a place to sleep.

In this case, the Parador de Úbeda, is very important for the network as it was the first to open its doors inside an authentic palace. Thus began a story where rest goes hand in hand with art, history... and a little bit of magic.
Surroundings
Outside the Parador, the city offers an equally fascinating experience: churches, museums, squares and narrow streets full of history, perfect for wandering.

So yes, now you know: you can sleep in a 16th century palace in the heart of Andalusia. And not just any palace, but the pioneer of a whole network that combines hospitality with heritage. An experience that is living history.
