Did you know that the Parador de El Saler transforms waste into experiences?
26 de August 2025

At Paradores, we have been committed to caring for the planet for years. Since 2018, we have been working with an ambitious Sustainability Plan that has a clear objective: to reduce our carbon footprint and become a carbon-neutral hotel chain by 2030. We are tackling this challenge with real, visible measures in all our accommodations.

If there is one place where this commitment is particularly evident, it is at the Parador de El Saler. There, we have developed an innovative, surprising and deeply sustainable initiative that integrates energy efficiency, respect for the natural environment and social responsibility, without compromising on the comfort and unique experience we offer our guests.

Because at Paradores, we are clear about one thing: the tourism of the future will be sustainable.

Furniture with history: from the sea to relaxation

Imagine sitting at a table that was once a fishing net abandoned in the depths of the sea. It's not a metaphor, it's reality. In the relaxation areas of the Parador de El Saler, there are recycled tables, along with benches and litter bins, made from fishing nets recovered from the Mediterranean. These objects not only offer comfort, but also tell a story of transformation and hope.

Ghost fishing nets, those that are lost or abandoned at sea, are responsible for more than 50% of the plastic polluting the oceans and are one of the main causes of marine animal death. Giving them a second life as furniture is a powerful way to combat this problem in a visible and tangible way.

An award with a purpose

This initiative has been recognised with the OLA Gravity Wave Awards for Best Circular Economy Product, which celebrate commitment to cleaning up the oceans and innovation in sustainability. Behind this achievement is Gravity Wave, an Alicante-based company that collects plastic from the bottom of the Mediterranean and drifting nets in ports in Spain, Italy and Greece, transforming them into useful and durable products.

Paths that tell stories

The Parador de El Saler's commitment to recycling goes beyond furniture. On its premises, you will find a walkway built with 60 kilos of recycled plastic, collected directly from the beach by volunteers committed to the environment. And if that weren't enough, there is also a path made from recycled tyres, proving that every piece of waste can be turned into an opportunity.

Actions such as these not only beautify the environment, but also educate, inspire and invite us to reflect on the impact we make on the planet. Because yes, it is possible to relax at a table that once floated adrift... and that is undoubtedly something worth sharing.

Experience the magic of Camp Tortuga at the Parador de El Saler

This summer, the Parador de El Saler will once again become the epicentre of marine conservation with the inauguration of the tenth season of Campamento Tortuga (Turtle Camp). On the 17th hole of the golf course, two loggerhead turtle nests have been installed, relocated from El Puig and Piles, with more than 240 eggs that are expected to begin hatching in the coming weeks.

Starting today, more than 150 volunteers coordinated by the NGO Xaloc will guard the nests 24 hours a day in the protected area of Punta del Parador Beach.

In its ten-year history, Campamento Tortuga has seen 710 turtles hatch and has returned more than 900 specimens to the sea. This collective effort, supported by institutions such as the Head of Projects and Works and Coasts and the University of Valencia, demonstrates that conservation is possible when the community comes together.

If you are looking for a transformative experience, come to the Parador de El Saler. Witness the birth of sea turtles and be part of a story that connects nature, science and commitment.
