When we plan a trip, we think about resting, enjoying ourselves and discovering new places. We want to make the most of our holidays to create memories and spend time with those we love most. But, as well as seeking relaxation and a break from everyday life, we can also make our trip more environmentally friendly.
The decisions we make before and during the trip can make a difference: how we travel to our destination or what kind of activities we choose. Travelling involves generating greenhouse gas emissions, particularly associated with transport (plane, car, cruise ship, bus or train), but also with everything that happens ‘behind the scenes’ in accommodation: air conditioning, lighting, providing food and drink, waste management, and the good practices necessary for each stay to run smoothly.

According to analyses by the World Travel & Tourism Council (WTTC) published since 2024, the travel and tourism sector generates approximately between 6.5% and 7.3% of global CO₂ emissions, taking into account both direct operations and its value chain. To put it more clearly, if tourism were a country, it would be among the world’s largest emitters. Furthermore, a large proportion of these emissions are linked to leisure, which reinforces the sector’s responsibility in the climate transition.
That is why tourism has a key role to play in the shift towards a more responsible model. On this journey, choosing establishments committed to the environment can also make a difference.
At Paradores, we are working to ensure that the impact of every visit becomes increasingly positive. That is why we talk about the “eco of your stay”: the impact your trip leaves when you choose accommodation committed to the environment.
Since 2020, we have been working to measure, reduce and offset the carbon footprint of our establishments. We analyse the emissions associated with our activity with a clear objective: to minimise them and continue moving towards a more responsible tourism model. This commitment has recently been reinforced by our registration in the 2024 Carbon Footprint, Offsetting and Absorption Projects Register of the Spanish Office for Climate Change (OECC), under the Ministry of Forests, Environment and Territorial Development (MITERD). This is the second time we have been awarded this recognition, which endorses the progress we are making on climate issues.

So, when you choose Paradores, you help ensure that the impact of your stay also forms part of the solution.
