Paradores invites you to stay in extraordinary locations across Spain, many set in historic buildings or surrounded by breathtaking natural landscapes. You can enjoy them year-round—whether on cultural getaways, gastronomic journeys, or trips designed purely to disconnect. Today we’re suggesting a route through northern Galicia that combines the sea, history, and nature. Of course, you can always design your own to suit your taste.
Starting point: Ferrol, where the sea tells its stories

Begin your journey in Ferrol, a seafaring city that draws you in with its modernist architecture and proud naval heritage. The Parador de Ferrol, housed in a Galician manor with the soul of a ship, is the perfect place to rest after your first day of discovery. From here, you’ll enjoy privileged views of the estuary, the shipyards and the harbour, as the nautical spirit of the building surrounds you.

DSpend the day exploring the La Magdalena quarter, with its modernist buildings and glass-fronted galleries. Don’t miss the Military Arsenal and the imposing fortresses of San Felipe and La Palma. If nature calls, head to the beaches of Doniños or San Jorge, or lose yourself in the magical Fragas do Eume Natural Park, a paradise for hiking enthusiasts.

After a day of history and nature, return to the Parador for a dinner showcasing the best of Atlantic cuisine: mariscos frescos (fresh seafood), empanadas (savoury pies) and fine Galician wines. Then retreat to your room to rest—tomorrow the journey continues into the heart of Lugo.

Second stop: Vilalba, the tower that guards secrets
Just 90 km from Ferrol, Vilalba —the capital of Terra Chá— awaits. The Torre dos Andrade, where the Parador de Vilalba, is located, is a medieval fortress that makes you feel part of a legend. With its coats of arms and frescoes, this Parador brims with history and offers a perfect refuge after a day of exploring the hidden corners of this enchanting town.

In Vilalba, you can relax at the Madalena river beach or enjoy the medicinal waters of Charca del Alligal. For a scenic walk, head to the Monseivane hills or Serra do Xistral If you’d like to return to the coast, explore the nearby towns of Mondoñedo and Lugo, with their medieval monuments and Lugo’s celebrated Roman wall

End the day back at the Parador with a feast of traditional Galician flavours: queso de San Simón,(San Simón smoked cheese), ternera gallega, (Galician beef) and dishes that pay tribute to the land itself. Relax and soak up the comforts of the Parador—tomorrow the road leads you to Ribadeo, a charming town overlooking the Cantabrian Sea.

Last stop: Ribadeo, the sea on the horizon
The last stage of your journey takes you to Ribadeo, just 60 km from Vilalba. This small fishing town opens onto the ría del Eo, where the Cantabrian Sea greets you with its fresh breeze. The Parador de Ribadeo, set in a traditional Galician manor, offers sweeping views of the estuary, the boats, and the Asturian villages in the distance. After a day of adventure, it’s the ideal place to unwind and recharge.

Ribadeo is perfect for strolling through its old quarter, enjoying its lively bars, and discovering the tradition of the Latin sail. Yet its crown jewel is the spectacular Playa de las Catedrales, just ten kilometres from the Parador. This natural monument, with its soaring cliffs and stone arches sculpted by wind and sea, is one of Galicia’s true wonders.

As evening falls, return to the Parador and savour the flavours of Ribadeo: mariscos frescos (fresh seafood), lacón con grelos (pork shoulder with turnip tops), empanadas (savoury pies) and homemade desserts. A fitting finale to your unforgettable journey through northern Galicia.
