Connecting with Rural Spain
16 de July 2025

In today’s world, travelling is not only a form of escape, but also an opportunity to connect with the authenticity of the places we visit. In this sense, at Paradores we offer a unique proposal for enjoying immersive experiences in rural enclaves, where nature and history come alive at every corner. Discover five destinations that, thanks to their location in some of the most spectacular landscapes in Spain, allow travellers to become engulfed by the very essence of the rural environment and revitalise areas that, little by little, are resisting depopulation.

Under the "Nature for the Senses" initiative, Paradores goes beyond conventional tourism, promoting a type of travel that is not only sustainable, but also fosters local employment and economic development in areas in need of support. Through these experiences, travellers are invited to immerse themselves in the history and traditions of their surroundings, creating a genuine link with the landscape and the local community.

A Journey into History and Nature

Located in the heart of the Val d'Aran, the Parador de Arties is the gateway to a world full of history and nature. From natural botany workshops to tours of the local Romanesque gems, this Parador offers a unique experience for those looking for more than just a simple stay. In addition, activities such as Stellar Paths allow you to contemplate the night sky without the interference of light pollution, a true immersion in the purest nature.

If you like outdoor adventures, Arties is the ideal place. With its varied natural environment, the Val d'Aran offers options for all tastes: from climbing to rafting, hiking and sports tourism. And, of course, don’t miss the mysterious Carlac Forest or the impressive Route of the 7 lakes in the Circ de Colomers.

Tradition and legend in the heart of Osona

In the county of Osona, a short distance from Barcelona, the Parador de Vic-Sau invites you to discover the history of a place surrounded by myths and legends. This old Catalan farmhouse is the perfect starting point for exploring the Monastery of San Pere de Caserres or strolling through the old quarter of Vic, which conceals Roman and mediaeval remains. Nature lovers can also explore Garrotxa, a volcanic area full of life and biodiversity, or walk among the majestic chestnut trees of Viladrau.

The experiences at this Parador also immerse you in the past with activities such as the route of the witches and medicinal plants or the stories and legends of the great bandit, Serrallonga. A journey through time that connects you with the deepest roots of this landscape.

Nature and gastronomy in the heart of Jaén

If you are looking for a getaway to the heart of nature, the Parador de Cazorla awaits you in the centre of the Sierras de Cazorla, Segura and Las Villas Nature Reserve, one of the largest protected areas in Spain. Here you can enjoy a unique sensory experience with activities such as olive oil harvesting in traditional olive oil mills, where you can learn all about this precious liquid gold and its link to local gastronomy.

What's more, the range of activities does not end there. This Parador allows you to get to know the flora and fauna of the region, offering activities on trails and in lush forests. In every corner of Cazorla, nature becomes the centre of the experience, inviting travellers to discover its unspoilt beauty and local flavours.

Fauna and tradition in the heart of Palencia

In the Natural Park of Fuentes Carrionas and Fuente Cobre, in the north of Palencia, the Parador de Cervera de Pisuerga offers you the opportunity to live alongside one of the most emblematic animals of the Iberian fauna: the brown bear. Follow routes where bears and other animals from the region have left their footprints, and even learn about their behaviour and their relationship with the environment.

In this corner of Castile-León, you can also discover the secrets of the hermit caves carved into the rock, as well as enjoying the rich regional gastronomy, based on fresh, local produce. The experience is completed with the option to explore traditional trades such as blacksmithing and discover the history of the region through its stones and legends.

A journey through vineyards and breathtaking landscapes

A few kilometres from Galicia, the Parador de Villafranca del Bierzo invites you to discover one of the most beautiful areas of El Bierzo, surrounded by mountains, centuries-old vineyards and landscapes worth exploring. Activities such as horse riding through the paraje de Las Médulas, allow you to see how man has transformed the landscape over the centuries.

The region's winemaking tradition also has its place in this Parador. Travellers can taste the wines of Castro de la Ventosa and learn about the cultivation process at its vineyards. The area also offers hiking routes along the hanging bridges of the river Sil, a unique way of connecting with nature and the history of this area.
