Opening Hours
The first Parador outside Spain
The complex was built by Luis de Alburquerque de Mello Pereira y Cáceres, Hidalgo of the Spanish Royal House, and later Governor and Captain General of the State of Mato Grosso, Brazil. It retains the two original towers that he built, a huge courtyard and the imposing façade with large windows. You'll love strolling through its gardens, where you'll find botanical species as rare as they are beautiful.
The overall interior decor with works by renowned artists is a reminder of its past, such as the fountain in the courtyard by the Italian master Nicola Bibaglia, the hand-painted wallpaper by Gué, and the artillery pieces from the times of Queen Maria Cristina.
The Parador also houses a farm that produces cheese and marmalade, an activity that you can join in, along with a tasting session of Dão wines. Its two outdoor swimming pools, the reading and games room, the gym and the chapel, are other spaces that will make you wish that you could stop time to enjoy this destination all the more.
