From 01/01/2025 until 28/02/2025The Parador de Monforte de Lemos stands in the heart of the town, within the Monastery of San Vicente do Pino and the Palace of the Condes de Lemos, which together with the medieval keep form the Monumental Complex of San Vicente do Pino.
The old rooms of the palace are now home to the common areas and salons of the Parador, while the guestrooms are organised around the majestic Neoclassical cloister of the monastery. The Parador also has a gym, jacuzzi and a beautiful outdoor swimming pool that, thanks to its location on a hill, offers amazing views over the Ribeira Sacra.
The origins of the monastery date back to the 9th c., although the building you see today was built between 1626 and 1802 in the Neoclassical Baroque style, replacing its medieval predecessor, which was falling into ruins.
The long construction process led to the complex including Gothic elements such as the interior structure, along with Renaissance features such as portal and Neoclassical elements such as the splendid cloistered area, making it a unique monument and a setting where visitors can dream of past glories.

Nestling in the heart of the Ribeira Sacra, Monforte de Lemos is one of the most unique places in Galicia. The best way to discover it is to wander through the streets replete with history, where you’ll be amazed by the impressive architecture of the Colegio de los Escolapios, a building constructed in the Classical style and over 100 metres long, locally known as the Galician Escorial. The museum of the Colegio, housed in what was the sacristy, has works by El Greco and Andrea del Sarto.
Lemos is also an ideal starting point to explore the Ribeira Sacra and discover it rivers, vineyards and Romanesque architecture. If you’re a culture lover, you can set off on the Romanesque Route of the Ribeira Sacra or visit the traditional Pazo de Tor and the beautiful Castro Caldelas with its streets that still follow the medieval town plan. The region is also full of truly exceptional landscapes, such as the Cañones del Sil and the magical Sierra de O Caurel, which you can enjoy by taking an idyllic boat trip along the rivers Miño and Sil or take the car and discover the wonderful views and Romanesque monasteries.
The town provides the ideal setting for visiting the Ribeira Sacra, the rivers, vineyards, Romanesque churches, gastronomy and festivities.
Outside the town, visit landscapes of indescribable beauty such as the Sil Canyons or the magical mountain range of O Caurel. But it is not necessary to go far to discover historical and unique spots.
A walk-through Monforte de Lemos will take us to the Colegio de los Escolapios, a majestic building that receives the nickname of El Escorial de Galicia, as construction lasted over three centuries.
Its impressive façade is striking, and is copied in the Monasterio do Pino, one of the buildings forming the Monumental Complex of San Vicente do Pino.
Next to the monastery are the Torre de Homenaje and the Palacio de los Condes de Lemos, today home to the Parador de Turismo.
From the city of Monforte there are many activities on offer. These include visiting the wineries of Ribeira Sacra, sailing along the rivers Miño and Sil, driving past the main viewpoints and Romanesque monasteries, or visiting other nearby towns.
For example, you can go to Ourense and visit the old part of the city, with its Cathedral and the Plaza Mayor.
Or head for Lugo and marvel at the Roman Wall, declared a World Heritage Site.
