Parador de Salamanca

Salamanca, a World Heritage city and a lively university city, is full of historic buildings and places.Strolling around the Plaza Mayor, one of the most beautiful squares in Spain, enjoying a drink in the bars that surround it; visiting the Casa de las Conchas, which is famous for its façade; visiting the cathedrals and ascending to the outside terraces to stroll among gargoyles and bells; looking for the frog on the façade of the historic University building, the oldest in Spain: these are some of the essential activities on any visit to Salamanca.

If you want to continue exploring it, close to Salamanca you’ll find the town of Alba de Tormes, where you can visit the magnificent Basilica of Santa Teresa; and the natural surroundings of the Sierra de Béjar, a popular destination for lovers of hiking and mountains.

  • What to do?
What to do in Parador de Salamanca

The city of Salamanca, declared a World Heritage Site, has a rich historical, cultural and architectural heritage. A stroll through its historic quarter should always include a visit to the Plaza Mayor, one of the most beautiful squares in Spain; the Casa de las Conchas, which is famous for its façade; visiting the cathedrals, ascending their terraces and strolling among gargoyles and bells; and looking for the frog on the façade of the historic University building, the oldest in Spain. Pay close attention because legend has it that only those who find it will pass their exams.

A good idea is to take a guided tour of the city with the official Salamanca guides. They will also take you to the Huerto de Calixto y Melibea and the Casa Lis, a modernist mansion with stained-glass windows. And if the weather is favourable, it’s worth taking a walk through the river park to see the beauty of the capital of Salamanca from a different vantage point. A beautiful walk along the River Tormes, from the centuries-old Enrique Esteban Bridge to the more modern Felipe VI Bridge.
