The capital of the Rías Baixas
Parador de Pontevedra

The Parador de Pontevedra is located in the historic centre of the magnificent city of Pontevedra, in a 16th century Renaissance palace that was once the residence of the Counts of Maceda. At the entrance is a stately staircase of carved stone that leads you to the cosy rooms. The building, which is decorated with highly valuable antiques and classic furniture, has a beautiful garden where you can stroll or sit and enjoy the area’s excellent wines.

The Parador does not have its own parking. Upon arrival, the staff will inform you of the different options for parking your vehicle.

The best way to explore Pontevedra is on foot. A tour of its elegant and well-maintained historic centre will cover the Basilica of Santa María La Mayor, a jewel of Gothic architecture, and the Church of the Pilgrim Virgin, a chapel with a scallop-shaped floor plan which is beautifully illuminated at night. You’ll learn more about the history of the city by visiting the five sites of the Museum of Pontevedra: the Convent of Santo Domingo, the Sarmiento Palace, the Castro Monteagudo building, the García Flórez building and the Fernández López building.

A few kilometres from the city, the Rías Baixas open into the Atlantic, and there you can enjoy fantastic sunsets in places including the island of A Toxa, urban beaches such as Silgar in Sanxenxo, or immense golden sands like A Lanzada.

Most of the historic centre of Pontevedra is pedestrianised. It is home to treasures such as the Basilica of Santa María La Mayor, a jewel of Gothic architecture, and the Church of the Pilgrim Virgin, a chapel with a scallop-shaped floor plan which is beautifully illuminated at night. Another point of interest is the Museum of Pontevedra, whose collections are spread over five different sites: the Convent of Santo Domingo, the Sarmiento Palace, the Castro Monteagudo building, the García Flórez building and the Fernández López building.

A few kilometres from the city, the Rías Baixas open into the Atlantic, and there you can enjoy fantastic sunsets in places including the island of A Toxa, urban beaches such as Silgar in Sanxenxo, or immense golden sands like A Lanzada. From Combarro, which has the largest concentration of hórreos in Galicia, you can take a boat to the island of Tambo.
