Olite is located 5 km from Tafalla. The main route is via the N-121.
Lodged in the heart of one of the most beautiful Gothic-civil complexes in Europe, the Parador de Olite occupies the oldest wing of the majestic palace-castle of the kings of Navarre, built in the Middle Ages and amplified in the 15th c. by Carlos III the Noble.
The balance between architecture and decoration in its rooms will take you to another age. Magnificent towers and battlements, galleries and arcades decorated with beautiful stained-glass windows, and details such as suits of armour, tapestries and cast-iron lamps, and coffered ceilings; here in Olite everything is bewitchment and fantasy to make you feel like a medieval noble.

The Parador occupies what is called the Palacio Viejo or El Palacio de los Teobaldos, the oldest of the two that form the defensive-palace complex of the kings of Navarre, rebuilt by king Carlos III the Noble according to French design and aesthetics.
Its partner, the Palacio Nuevo, dates to the reconstruction of the 15th c. One of the first uses it was put to was the meeting of the royal court in the period of king Carlos. It was built on top of the original Roman praesidium, the remains of which can still be seen in the bases of the towers.

If you're passionate about history and heritage, nearby you'll find the walled enclosure of Artajona-Artaxoa and the medieval walls of Ujué-Uxue and San Martín de Unx. Furthermore, just a few kilometers away is Puente la Reina - Gares, with its emblematic seven-arched Romanesque bridge on the Camino de Santiago, and a little further on awaits Pamplona - Iruña, famous for its atmosphere and bars serving traditional pintxos.
If you prefer nature, you can discover the Pitillas Lagoon, one of the most important birdwatching spots in the area, or marvel at the landscapes of the Pyrenees Viewpoint and the Bardenas Reales - Errege Bardea. The churches of Santa María la Real and San Pedro stand out.
But the most emblematic monument of this beautiful town in Navarre is its Royal Palace.
The Royal Palace of Olite is one of the most beautiful Gothic-civil ensembles in Europe.
It is made up of what is known as the Old Palace, where the Parador de Olite is located, and the New Palace, which is open to visitors.
It is a unique medieval setting full of nooks and crannies, towers, battlements, galleries and leafy gardens.
It was the favourite residence of Charles III of Navarre, and it is said that it even had a vertical garden.
If you like castles, in the area around Olite you can visit the walled enclosure of Cerco de Artajona and the mediaeval towns of Ujué and San Martín de Unx.
Pamplona is just 40 kilometres away and is another attractive tourist destination.
In the capital of Navarre, you can visit the Cathedral, the Citadel and the walls of the Portal de Zumalacárregui, as well as take the famous Sanfermines route and go for pintxos along Estafeta street.
