At the top of a gorge that stands in the plains of the river Águeda, the Parador de Ciudad Rodrigo occupies an emblematic castle rebuilt in 1372 by Henry II of Castile, the first king in the dynasty of Isabel the Catholic.

 

The Parador offers an ideal location to enjoy the architectural wealth of Ciudad Rodrigo. The recently restored and carefully designed rooms are decorated with modern elements combined with traditional Castilian furniture to capture the medieval spirit of the castle. The Parador occupies what was the monastery of Nuestra Señora del Paraíso, which was founded by the first lords of Chinchón in the 15th c. The remaining features of the original building are the cloister and stairway, along with the old chapel, which was converted into a very special suite.

 

The building can be found in the heart of the medieval town. It has large gardens and a typical monastic kitchen garden that is now full of fruit trees and creates an ideal space to disconnect and relax next to the swimming pool located in the old monastery stables. The Parador also has a spectacular glazed cloister that contains an exclusive collection of religious art.

Half an hour’s drive from Seville, the Parador de Carmona, an Andalusi palace, stands on the ruins of an impressive 14th c. Moorish castle as a testimony to the region’s past.
