The building clearly shows its long and rich history, which includes the Estremaduran explorer Hernán Cortés, an illustrious guest of the palace. The building was originally a fortress, and it went from being a Muslim fortress to be the palatial residence of the dukes. Its spectacular façade gives way to a refined interior containing the nine original towers crowned with battlements. The Parador preserves beautifully coffered ceilings, chests, ironwork, handrails and decorative elements from the old palace. The beautiful interior courtyard and the spectacular views of the city from the terrace are a highlight.
