Our pilgrimage to the tomb of the apostle along the Camino de Santiago, declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO and a European Cultural Route by the Council of Europe, begins in the southern Rías Baixas, in the historic town of Baiona. It was here that the arrival of the caravel La Pinta on March 1, 1493, brought news of the Discovery of America. Protected from the open sea by a beautiful bay lies the Monterreal peninsula, where the Parador awaits you within its walled fortress. A paradise for savoring fresh fish and seafood. From there, you'll enjoy breathtaking sunsets with the Cíes Islands in the distance, inviting you to explore their cliffs, beaches, dunes, seabed, and pristine trails.
Within the walled enclosure is the Royal Yacht Club of Baiona, where you can sail and enjoy nautical tourism. You can't leave Baiona without taking a tour of Monte do Boi and Serra da Groba, from which the Rías Baixas look like a sober and colorful watercolor, without seeing the sunset at Cabo Silleiro, without visiting the viewpoint of the Virgin of Roca or without wandering through its splendid old town and its seafront promenade.
