In the heart of the Alhambra
Parador de Granada

A night in La Alhambra, amongst gardens and fountains that evoke a past that blends together Arabic and Christian culture: a truly unique opportunity awaits you at the Parador de Granada, a monastery built by the Catholic Monarchs in a Moorish palace.

The brick walls conceal an interior made of dreams, where wonderful works of art and furniture are combined with spectacular views of the gardens of the Generalife that invite guests to take a relaxing walk through the city and experience unforgettable moments of peace and tranquillity in the unique setting of the Parador.

The Parador de Granada occupies what was the Nasrid Palace of Los Infantes, which was converted by the Catholic Monarchs into the first Christian monastery in the recently conquered Alhambra and selected to house the monarchs’ tomb.

The original patio, converted into a cloister, is still conserved, as are the Arabic room and the qubba, which offers a magnificent view over the Generalife through which the royal canal passed, while under the Cúpula de Mocárabes the provisional tombs of the Catholic Monarchs can still be seen. The Parador is also home to the Arab bath houses of the palace, which were discovered in 1949.

    Explore the surroundings in Granada

La Alhambra, the symbol of Granada, is a backdrop full of art and history, and home to the Parador. This monument- a masterpiece of the art of Al Andalus - is an ideal starting point to visit the city. The best views of the complex are to be found in the Mirador de San Nicolás, or in El Albaicín, one of the most typical districts of Granada, where you can enjoy Moorish tea and sweets at one of its traditional tea houses. From there, you can set off into the historical quarter, which is home to amazing buildings such as the cathedral and the monasteries of San Jerónimo and La Cartuja. A fantastic way to end the day is to wander through the streets of the district of Sacromonte, visit its caves, and once there see a traditional flamenco show, one of the most authentic experiences offered by Granada.

A crossroads of cultures since time immemorial, Granada offers visitors a privileged setting of culture and nature. Take the Ruta del Gollizno and be amazed by its churches and cave paintings, or marvel at the beautiful landscapes of the Alpujarra and the Sierra Nevada National Park, one of the best ski station in Spain, where you can see the Mulhacén, the highest peak in the Iberian peninsula.

Other must-sees on your visit to Granada include the Cathedral, the Cartuja Monastery, the Arab Baths and the Science Park. In the Sacromonte neighbourhood, you’ll discover another of Granada's traditional buildings, the caves, now converted into flamenco tablaos.

The province of Granada is also home to natural treasures such as the Sierra Nevada National Park, where the highest peak on the peninsula, Mulhacén, stands at a height of 3,479 metres above sea level. The Sierra Nevada ski resort makes it one of the most popular destinations in winter, but in summer it also attracts lovers of hiking and adventure sports.
