What to do in Parador De Vielha

Vielha is a small Pyrenean town, capital of the Val d'Aran, has a beautiful historic quarter where you can find all kinds of shops specialising in adventure sports, high mountain and snow sports. And if there is one thing Vielha is known for, it is its stunning scenery. Surrounded by the mountains of the Catalan Pyrenees, the town is the perfect destination for mountain sports and nature lovers, as the ski resort of Baqueira is just 20 minutes away by car. When the snow is not there, Vielha's surroundings invite you to go hiking, mountain biking and sightseeing in the most traditional corners of the area.

What to do in Parador de Pontevedra

Most of the historic centre of Pontevedra is pedestrianised. It is home to treasures such as the Basilica of Santa María La Mayor, a jewel of Gothic architecture, and the Church of the Pilgrim Virgin, a chapel with a scallop-shaped floor plan which is beautifully illuminated at night. Another point of interest is the Museum of Pontevedra, whose collections are spread over five different sites: the Convent of Santo Domingo, the Sarmiento Palace, the Castro Monteagudo building, the García Flórez building and the Fernández López building.

The Parador de Turismo "Marco Fabio Quintiliano" pays homage to the bimillenary Calagurris Nassica Iulia, the Roman name by which Calahorra was known. A walk through its historic centre reveals the 12th-century Romanesque Cathedral, several other churches from different historical periods, and the Episcopal Palace, which holds numerous items such as fine gold ornaments, clothing, sculptures and paintings. There are also several museums, such as those dedicated to Romanisation or to Crops, and the Museum of Easter Floats, as Easter celebrations here have been declared a festival of National Tourist Interest.

The Parador de Chinchón is one of the most emblematic buildings in the town. Guests can explore in more depth by joining one of the visits that we organise every morning, where you’ll discover spaces such as the chapterhouse, the doctoral hall, the stables and the old washrooms. You could then take a walk through the old quarter, following in the footsteps of Celtiberians, Romans and Arabs in the midst of a unique cultural landscape. Chinchón, a Historical-Artistic Site since 1974, is notable for its impressive Plaza Mayor, which with more than 200 wooden balconies has appeared in many films; take a walk along one of the town’s cinematic routes and feel like you’re in a film.

 

The landscape of Chinchón, in the heart of the Vega del Tajuña, is full of vineyards and olive groves. Near the town you can explore the Wine Caves and sample some of their excellent wines. The town’s privileged location enables you to visit other famous places such as Aranjuez, Madrid and, which are all less than an hour away. And Parque Warner, the perfect experience for all the family, is just 30 km away.

Alcalá de Henares, City of Arts and Letters, is synonymous with culture. The birthplace of Miguel de Cervantes and the Complutense University founded by Cardinal Cisneros in 1499, it has been a World Heritage Site since 1998. The Parador’s privileged location means you can enjoy a walk in the nearby historical quarter : discover the spectacular Chapel of San Ildefonso, the Archbishop’s Palace and the baroque convent of the Bernardas, wander along the Calle Mayor, which is pedestrianised and always full of life, or stop off at the Plaza de Cervantes, the heart of the city, where you will find the Corral de Comedias.

 

Alcalá has a wide range of cultural activities on offer throughout the year. It has three festivals declared as Fiestas of National Tourist Interest : the Semana Cervantina (Cervantes’ Week), Holy Week and the open-air representation of Don Juan Tenorio by José Zorrilla that has been held since 1984. Every 23 April the city also celebrates the Cervantes Prize for Literature at the University Auditorium.
