From 02/01/2025 until 31/05/2025The Parador de Jarandilla de la Vera awaits you in the old castle-palace of the Counts of Oropesa, which nestles in the valley of La Vera, close to the Tiétar and Jerte rivers, amongst gorges, natural pools and forests of chestnut trees.
The Parador is both ancient and redolent of comfort, where proud towers and the large courtyard coexist with an exceptional swimming pool surrounded by olive and orange trees. Inside, the elegantly designed salons with fireplaces will take you back in time, while offering an atmosphere of peace and privacy.
The Parador de Jarandilla de la Vera occupies the old castle-palace of the Counts of Oropesa. It dates to the 16th c. and still conserves its ditch and towered walls, along with an exceptional two-floored Gothic gallery in the interior patio.
The castle was the residence of its most illustrious guest between 1556 and 1557. It was selected as a refuge by the emperor Carlos V after he abdicated, and he lived here for several months before finally setting up home in the nearby monastery of Yuste.

Take advantage of the Paradores offers
Jarandilla de la Vera has always been famous for the exceptional beauty of its monuments. The best way to get to know the town is by losing yourself in its streets, where you’ll discover jewels such as the House of Don Luis de Quijada, the medieval bridge of El Parral and the church of Santa María de la Torre, which was once a Templar fortress in the 12th c. You can also enjoy impressive views from the Mirador de la Serranilla or, if you visit us on 7 December, you can participate in the fiesta of “Los Escobazos”, which was declared an event of National Tourist Interest.
Jarandilla’s privileged location also gives you the chance to enjoy its beautiful surroundings. Nearby you’ll find five towns and villages declared Historical-Artistic Complexes: Pasarón de la Vera, Garganta de la Olla, Valverde de la Vera, Villanueva de la Vera and Cuacos de Yuste, with its beautiful monastery. Jarandilla is also surrounded by natural gorges, such as Jaranda and the Garganta de los Infiernos Nature Reserve. Jarandilla is also situated less than 50 kilometres away from the Valle del Jerte, the Regional Park of the Sierra de Gredos and the Monfragüe National Park, all of which include spectacular landscapes.
It’s also a destination for nature lovers, with 46 natural gorges in the surrounding area alone, making it an ideal spot for bathing in summer. The best known and most visited is the Garganta del Infierno Nature Reserve.
There are also five towns in the area around Jarandilla that have been declared Historic-Artistic Sites: Pasarón de la Vera, Garganta de la Olla, Cuacos de Yuste, Valverde de la Vera and Villanueva de la Vera.
The Monastery of Yuste, where Emperor Charles V spent his last days, is 11 km away. Its two cloisters, one Gothic and the other Renaissance, Charles V’s gardens and bedroom are outstanding. The monastery currently hosts the Charles V European Award ceremony.
