Galician tradition on the border with Portugal
Parador de Tui

On the border between Galicia and Portugal, in the centre of the city of Tui and next to the banks of the Miño river, is the Parador de Tui. The building faithfully reproduces the architecture of a traditional Galician pazo and is surrounded by a mountainous and river environment. It is the perfect destination for nature lovers who want to combine their activity with river sports such as canoeing. The hotel has elegant lounges, cosy rooms, a large garden with a swimming pool and a tennis court.

Tui is at the head of the Baixo Miño region, a region bathed by the last kilometres of the river Miño before it reaches the Atlantic. The city has river beaches and natural landscapes of great beauty. Its historic centre is also of singular beauty, where a succession of cobbled streets reveals emblazoned houses and monuments at every turn, including the Santa María cathedral, the only one in the province of Pontevedra.

Tui's surroundings include the Monet Aloia Natural Park, the beautiful fishing village of A Guarda and the impressive Cistercian monastery of Santa María, in the small village of Oia. And in the landscape, the exceptional vineyards where the prestigious wines with D.O. Rías Baixas are grown.

What to do in Parador de Tui

Tui has a beautiful old town centre with an interesting collection of historical-artistic buildings. Tui was a major town during the Middle Ages, being the focal point of trade and defence against Portugal, which it borders. The best way to discover its history is to walk around it. Stroll through its cobbled streets, discovering the emblazoned houses and the historic buildings. The most outstanding is the cathedral of Santa María, the only cathedral in the province of Pontevedra. Also of great interest are the churches of San Bartolomé, San Francisco and San Telmo.

Tui's natural landscape is one of its main attractions. Its setting next to the river Miño means it has river beaches that are suitable for bathing and river sports such as canoeing. It is also ideal for hiking. Near Tui is the Monte Aloia Natural Park, at an altitude of over 600 metres, where you can see the remains of a Cyclopean wall, the Cama de San Xiao rock, the Mirador de la Cruz and the chapel of San Xiao.

Tui is an ideal starting point to explore the Ribeira Sacra, an area comprising the banks of the rivers Sil and Miño, where you can discover the monasteries and temples along its slopes. And, on the other side of the Miño, you can visit nearby Valença do Minho, a picturesque Portuguese walled town.
