From 21/05/2021 until 31/07/2026Santillana del Mar is known as “The town of three lies” because it is not holy, not flat and has no sea. Even so, it’s one of the most tourist-oriented places in Spain, and is protected with the designation of an Historic-Artistic Site. Two buildings in this town are the headquarters of Paradors. The Parador de Santillana del Mar is a new building which, while respecting the town’s surroundings, reproduces popular mountain architecture and has a large, pleasant terrace. It also has a restaurant, a bar, a sauna and a garden. Its spacious rooms, which are large-capacity and boast natural light, have the services and equipment necessary to hold all kinds of events.
The Parador de Santillana del Mar is the perfect starting point for exploring the historic town centre. A walking tour will show you the historic buildings and main monuments, such as the Casa del Águila and the Casa de la Plaza, the statue in homage to Altamira Man and the old town hall building. Just two kilometres away is the zoo, and just over 15 kilometres away is the beautiful village of Comillas, which is protected by the Cantabrian Sea.

Take advantage of the Paradores offers
Santillana del Mar was declared a national monument thanks to having one of the richest historical and artistic heritages of any town in Spain. It is also one of the most unique towns in Cantabria, world famous for the prehistoric paintings of the Altamira Caves, considered the "Sistine Chapel" of cave art. Access to the paintings is currently restricted.
An exact replica of the cave can be seen in the Altamira National Museum and Interpretation Centre.
The best way to explore the historic centre of Santillana del Mar is to take a walking tour and discover its unique buildings and monuments, such as the Casa del Águila and Casa de la Plaza, the statue in homage to Altamira Man and the old town hall building.
Just 2 kilometres from the village is the zoo, and just over 15 kilometres away is the beautiful village of Comillas, which is protected by the Cantabrian Sea.
Nature has also been kind to Santillana del Mar, and near its historic centre are the Santa Justa and Ubiarco beaches.
Other nearby destinations, which also have beaches, include Cobreces, Suances and San Vicente de la Barquera.
The Medieval village of Santillana is the setting for this Parador, which occupies a 17th century manor house and another built later. Cosy, intimate terraces and lounges, which are steeped in history, and which have capacities from 10 to over 200 people. All of this in the heart of the historic centre of a unique town, moulded in stone and wood, just 25 km from Santander.
