The first hotel in the Parador Network
Parador de Gredos

The history of Paradores begins here, at the Parador de Gredos. It was inaugurated by King Alfonso XIII in 1928 and became the first hotel in the network. It also earned its place in the history books when the fathers of the Spanish Constitution met while drafting the Spanish Magna Carta of 1978.

The building is notable for its stone walls and slate roof. Its main façade was built from the ruins of the local manor house. It has several lounges with fireplaces, a shrine and a children's playroom. But what really stands out are the spectacular views of the Sierra de Gredos from all of its terraces.

It is located in the town of Navarredonda de Gredos (Ávila), just 2 hours by car from Madrid. Located in the heart of the Sierra de Gredos, the Parador is an unbeatable destination for nature, hiking and astronomy enthusiasts. You can also visit the small villages in the area and the towns of El Barco de Ávila or Arenas de San Pedro.

What to do in Parador de Gredos

The Sierra de Gredos is the perfect place to disconnect, relax and enjoy active tourism just a stone's throw from Madrid. If hiking’s your thing, there’s an enormous variety of trails to explore all its nooks and crannies on foot: the Laguna Grande trail, the Pinar de Navarredonda trail... What's more, in nearby Puerto del Pico, you can walk on one of the best-preserved Roman roads in Spain.

In summer you can have a dip in the natural pools. There are other activities such as mushroom picking tours, horse-riding, bird watching or having fun with the little ones in the adventure parks. A little more than half an hour's drive away, are two historical towns on the banks of the river Tormes: Arenas de San Pedro and El Barco de Ávila.

Don’t miss out on stargazing at night. The Parador de Gredos has been awarded the international Starlight certification for the quality of its night sky as it is an area protected from light pollution. At the Parador we organise astronomy activities and courses with certified instructors.
