In the heart of History
Parador de Cáceres

The Parador de Cáceres stands proud in the heart of the historical quarter of Caceres, a World Heritage city. The building is formed by a complex of two palaces that combine Gothic, Renaissance and Baroque architecture, which are the most emblematic styles of the city.

The restored building brings together tradition and modernity. Inside, the network of patios and stone walls, wooden beams and the original fireplace will take you to another age, while the restaurant, terrace bar and cafeteria offer you a marvellous setting to sit back and enjoy a relaxing time with friends.

The Parador de Cáceres is made up to two old aristocratic town houses : the Casa de Ovando-Mogollón, Perero y Paredes, built in a Gothic style, and the Palacio de los Marqueses de Torreorgaz, likewise Gothic, but with a Neoclassical façade added in the 18th c., which is now used as the main entrance.

The building is a reflection of the city’s civil architecture of the late Middle Ages, characterised by fortified houses with towers and interior patios where the rooms where distributed. In this building you will find two treasures : one of the few towers remaining in the city, and a 2nd c. Roman tombstone with the original inscription still legible.

  • What to do?
    Explore the surroundings in Cáceres

The medieval city of Caceres, declared a World Heritage Site in 1986, is one of the most architecturally diverse cities in Spain. The best way to discover it is to lose yourself in the old quarter’s cobbled streets. Along the way, you’ll see fortified houses, churches and palaces. You’ll be amazed by the Moorish city walls and the iconic Plaza Mayor and discover jewels such as the Moorish water cistern of the Palacio de las Veletas.

However, Caceres is much, much more than monuments. If you like culture, explore prehistory in the cave of Maltravieso and its cave art, or visit the Vostell Malpartida Museum and enjoy its collection of modern art. If you are more of a nature person, then Caceres has some wonderful places nearby such as the Nature Park of Los Barruecos and its rock formations, and in just half an hour you can get to the National Park of Monfragüe, a Biosphere Reserve that is ideal for seeing birds such as the griffon vulture, the peregrine falcon and the eagle owl. Looking for something more active? Set off on adventures through exciting routes by 4x4 or try canyoning in the spectacular Valle del Jerte.

Exploring the city's wealth of monuments will barely leave you with any time, but if you can manage it, we recommend a visit to the Monfragüe National Park, just half an hour away by car. You can watch griffon vultures, peregrine falcons and eagle owls in this biosphere reserve. Or hop on a river cruise through the Tagus International Nature Reserve, which runs along this river that links Spain and Portugal.

Extremadura cuisine is another attraction, and it includes traditional local drinks such as beso extremeño or a “kiss from Extremadura”, "Gloria" liqueur, and cherry brandy. Come and taste them, along with acorn-flavoured beer, the latest venture of microbreweries.
