To the south of the Rías Baixas, protected from the open sea by a beautiful bay, lies the Monterreal peninsula, where the Parador de Baiona awaits you. It’s a walled fortress with the most privileged position in the peninsula which provides the best views of the sea and the land. You can look out over the entire bay in its immense garden and swimming pool.
Baiona is one of the most popular tourist destinations in the province of Vigo. Its lookout points reveal one of the reasons why: the Cíes Islands. This pristine natural paradise is home to "the most beautiful beach in the world", the Rodas Beach. The Cíes Islands are part of the National Park of the Atlantic Islands of Galicia.
Ribeira Beach, Concheira Beach and Barbiera Beach will become some of your favourite sites , in addition to losing yourself in the medieval old town of Baiona, and heading up to the Virgen de la Roca lookout point.
Enjoy the tranquil surroundings in the Parador’s walled courtyard, relax in its elegant interior spaces, and extend the day with a glass of wine in the garden. Don't forget to book a table in one of our restaurants for the best local produce which includes, of course, fish and seafood.

The Castle of Monterreal, now a Parador, is one of the emblems of Baiona. Walk along its walls and contemplate the Royal Gate and Clock Tower. It’s surrounded by the Paseo del Monte do Boi trail which leads to the Torre del Príncipe. Along with the Virgen de la Roca lookout point, it offers the best views of the bay and the Cíes Islands. You also get great views from the Silleiro lighthouse that stands on the cape of the same name.
The best beaches for bathing lie between the Parador peninsula and the Port of Baiona: Ribeira Beach, Concheria Beach and Barbiera Beach are the closest ones. After you’ve swum to your heart’s content, lose yourself in the old quarter of Baiona, a network of medieval streets that houses gems such as the Chapel of Santa Liberata or the former Coleiata de Santa María.
History states that the news of the discovery of America first reached the Port of Baiona with the arrival of the Pinta. You can view a replica of this vessel there. A mere 40 km away is Vigo, the largest city in Galicia and the heart of the Rías Baixas.
Cíes Islands: a natural paradise
The Cíes Islands are many centuries old. They’ve been a zone of transit since the Palaeolithic Age and human presence there dates to around 3500 BCE, although the first settlement dates back to the Bronze Age (between 500 and 100 BCE), as confirmed by remains found in As Hortas, a fortified settlement on the slopes of Monte Faro. Now you can embark upon a boat trip to discover for yourself all that was left to us by other cultures.
