A magnificent balcony at the world’s end
Parador Costa da Morte

The Parador de Costa da Morte, built into a hill and designed to blend into the green Galician landscape, offers a magnificent balcony onto the end of the world and is one of the latest inclusions in the Paradores Network.

Looking out over Lourido Beach and a short distance from Cape Fisterra, the interior of the Parador is a prolongation of its extraordinary setting. The design of each room is based on the organic natural forms to be found in the Costa da Morte. Designs that are both timeless and welcoming, that transmit calm and wellbeing, and that allow you to enjoy spectacular views of the sea.

The integration within its surroundings is at the core of this Parador's identity. Its design in terraces is focused on environmental respect, adapting itself to the natural orography with two innovative, panoramic lifts which move diagonally.

Here, every room looks towards the coast and has impressive views of the sea, while its spectacular infinity swimming pool merges itself with the Atlantic Ocean thanks to its glass walls. Additionally, the Parador hosts an artistic collection of its own, an exclusive display of sculptures and photographies closely linked the the livelihood, landscape, history and culture of Galicia.

    What to do?
Explore the surroundings in Costa da Morte

Placed in a truly exceptional location, flanked by the blue ocean waters and a sea of green pines, Muxía offers visitors a setting in which nature and culture blend together, a place to enjoy its beautiful beaches, tracks and ancient traditions. The library of the Parador includes a collection of works by the Batallón Literario de Costa da Morte that invites you to discover its memory, perpetuated in the history of the shipwrecks of the Costa da Morte, in the skill of the lace makers of Camariñas and Muxía, in the creativity of the potters of Buño, the dangerous work of the barnacle fishermen, and the redeiras, the women of this coast who have weaved the fishermen’s nets since time immemorial.

The Costa da Morte is a land of cultural and natural monuments. You’ll be amazed by the Dolmen de Dombate, “the cathedral of Galician megaliths” that crowns Monte Pindo, the Mount Olympus of Celtic mythology. Or you can take a walk along the famous Camiño dos Faros from Malpica to Finisterre, one of the best hiking routes on the Galician coast. The Parador is also an excellent starting point to see the waterfalls in the Ruta das Fervenzas de Carballo, the Caldeiras do Castro, and the impressive Cascada del Ézaro. And if a different experience is what you’re after, then don’t miss the WAOH! Route, the first European scuba diving route to focus on underwater heritage.

Paradores has also acquired the works of two outstanding contemporary sculptors: Francisco Leiro and Álvaro de la Vega who hold exhibitions in Costa da Morte. The library has plenty of Galician literature, including the works of writers from the so-called Costa da Morte Literary Battalion movement. The famous embroidery of Camariñas and the pottery of Buños are also represented -in their most contemporary versions- in the building’s decor.

In Muxía you will find the mythical Sanctuary of the Virgen da Barca, a place where you can discover many of the secrets hidden in the famous St. James’ Way. This is also where you can visit the impressive 40-metre high Ézaro waterfall. The only waterfall in continental Europe that flows directly into the sea. Nearby is the town of Carnota, where you can visit one of the largest granaries or hórreos in the world, around 35 metres in length.

You can also visit the Cabo Vilán lighthouse, the Praia de Nemiña beach, the famous Meigha Lirea route and the Sanctuary of the Virgen da Barca. And if you want to go further afield, Santiago de Compostela is 73 km away, and a little ahead, 90 km away, is A Coruña.
