#ParadoresPlans: 3-day getaway to Limpias
25 de June 2014

Some travelers long for the north, for the green landscapes of a region dotted with small towns where time seems to stand still. These locations conceal wonders just waiting to be discovered, perfect spots for travelers looking for a special place to spend the night. Does that sound like you? We look forward to welcoming you to the Parador de Limpias. Come discover this building from the last century, lovely garden and relaxing atmosphere surrounded by trees.

Of course, it's not all rest and relaxation. The area has any number of points of interest and we've put together a plan to be sure you get to see them all. Shall we go to Limpias?

Day 1: seafaring history

Did you know that Limpias has a port? It does, along with a naval museum that is well worth a visit. The number of elements that have withstood the test of time is astonishing. They shed light on the history of a town whose port was once the driving force behind its economy. Today, the ria that bears the same name as the town is a lovely spot to stroll and enjoy the scenery and the views.

This is the perfect day to take the opportunity to dine at the Parador restaurant, where you will find a very interesting selection of traditional local products, of course featuring fresh fish from the Bay of Biscay.

Day 2: seaside getaway

Taking a dip in the waters of the Bay of Biscay is an experience we highly recommend. Depending on the time of year, the water might best be described as a bit "cool" but be sure to give it a try anyway. (Remember to check the flags for the current status of the beach and avoid deep areas if you're not a strong swimmer.) Just a few kilometers to the north of Limpias you'll find the town of Laredo. A little further to the west is Santoña. Both are excellent spots to get away from it all for the day. Be sure to take your towel and bathing suit if you want to enjoy the beaches.

If you're not a big fan of the sand, the Parador also has a swimming pool, so you won't miss out on a refreshing swim.

Day 3: cave paintings and natural landscapes

Virtually the entire northern area is a canvas in green painted with unique landscapes. But there's more. It boasts one of the treasures which most fascinate experts and inquisitive minds from around the world: caves which still contain vestiges of rock art, paintings that give us insight into the origins of our species, what we were like thousands of years ago. Take advantage of this chance to visit Covalanas Cave and Cullalvera Cave.

After you emerge from your journey back in time, you'll want to breathe in the pure air at one of the nature reserves located near the Parador de Limpias. These include Santoña, Victoria y Joyel; Armñón and Collados del Asón.

Now that you've got an idea of what you'd like to explore in this region, book your stay today. We look forward to welcoming you. (Oh, wait! We almost forget to mention that some claim to have seen the ghost who inhabits this Parador. If you hear the sound of a piano, don't worry, it's just Margarita, a delightful young woman who lived here several centuries ago.)
